- Nowadays the marine transport is one of the most us ed modal and it is a important part of the developed nations economy and in the develop ment way. The world growth claims a marine transport increase, the world ship fleet inc rease every year. This increase the fuel demand, the ports growth and the quantity of pollut ants generated. The marine transport depends essentially of energy from petroleum derivate and, the consequence, produces emissions of CO2, SOx, NOx, p articulate material and others. Today the marine transport answer for approximately 4,5% of the carbon emissions, 4% of sulfur oxide emissions and 7% of nitrogen oxi de emissions. If the expansion of this transport modal be maintai ned along the next years, as expected, the emission participation of these pollu tants types should grow and, certainly, society pressures will exist to introduce measures to contain this growth. 1
