A Estratégia Naval da Índia. Perspectivas para o Poder Naval: O submarino na Estratégia Naval indiana

Abstract

A new strategic scenario has emerged in recent year s of the twentieth century, resulting from the end of the Cold War. The old bipolar system has given rise to new threats and new actors in the international system. With a vibrant economi c growth from the beginning of the century, India was raised to the status of influent ial strategic player in this new international system. To support this new condition, and to defen d its rising national interests, there appeared the need for change in the strategic postu re of its naval power. Competition for strategic areas in the Indian Ocean region (IOR) ha s required the deployment of a new maritime strategy able to confront new challenges. Thus, India has formulated in 2007 a new naval strategy, “ Freedom to Use the Seas ”, which should get the ability to exercise power projection in offshore waters. Consistent with curr ent strategic thinking, the new Military Maritime Strategy of India, will contribute to the effective use of its naval power in support of national policy objectives. To this end, investment s were made in defense for the upgrading and modernization of its navy. In this new strategy , this paper aims to analyze the geopolitical context and the current situation of the Indian Nav y. In addition, it aims to analyze the new Maritime Strategy Military of India and present pro spects of its naval power in relation to the Submarine Force.
