| Description: | Cerca de 95% do comércio internacional são transportados em navios. Para o transporte eficiente e eficaz, é indispensável a aplicação de regras de diferentes convenções fundamentais provenientes da Organização Marítima Internacional (IMO), como a Convenção Internacional para Prevenção de Poluição de Navios (MARPOL) e a Convenção Internacional para a Salvaguarda da Vida Humana no Mar (SOLAS). Suas aplicações objetivam convencionar procedimentos que visam, principalmente, a segurança do mar e a eficiência do transporte marítimo com todo seu potencial. Ao longo do desenvolvimento deste trabalho, são apresentadas definições sobre a IMO abrangendo os seus tópicos e características fundamentais, bem como sua estrutura, procedência, tratados e principais objetivos. Por fim, não se trata apenas de conceituar a IMO em geral, mas também de esclarecer sua atuação e relação com a Marinha Mercante, apresentando a importância desta Organização para o transporte marítimo. |
| Abstract: | About 95% of international trade is transported by ship. For efficient and effective transport, the application of different fundamental conventions from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), like the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), is indispensable. Their applications aim at establishing procedures to guarantee safety at the sea and efficiency of maritime transport at their full capacity. Throughout the development of this work, it was presented discussions about IMO including its topics and key features as well as its organization, origin, documents and principal objectives. Finally, it isn’'t just about conceptualizing IMO in general, but also clarifying its role and relationship with the Merchant Marine, showing the importance of this organization for shipping. |
