| Description: | Neste artigo, discute-se o histórico do acesso à reconstrução de mama após mastectomia no Brasil. O tratamento do câncer de mama apresentou importante evolução nos últimos 50 anos, e além da melhorado prognóstico da doença, houve também uma atenção à importância do acesso à cirurgia reparadora após o tratamento de câncer de mama, que pode gerar mutilação e dificultar a aceitação da doença pela paciente.Com o surgimento de leis que garantem o acesso tanto no Sistema Único de Saúde quanto via planos de saúde, as pacientes portadoras de câncer de mama com indicação de mastectomia e sem contra-indicações à reconstrução mamária possuem acesso à essa cirurgia no Brasil,diminuindo o impacto negativo da doença na imagem corporal feminina e as consequências psicossociais relativas à mastectomia. No entanto,ainda há alguns desafios no alcance dessas cirurgias, uma vez que, para serem realizadas, necessitam de um conjunto de variáveis, como equipe de mastologistas e cirurgiões plásticos capacitados, além de acesso a materiais como implantes e expansores. |
| Abstract: | In this article, we discuss the history of the access to breast reconstructionafter mastectomy in Brazil. Breast cancer treatment has shown importantevolution over the last 50 years, and in addition to the improvement of thedisease’s prognosis, there has also been attention to the importance ofreconstructive surgeries after breast cancer treatment, which can lead tomutilation and make difficult acceptance of the disease by the patients.With the emergence of laws that guarantee access both in the PublicHealth Care System in Brazil and by health insurance plans, patients withbreast cancer with indications for mastectomy and withoutcontraindications to breast reconstruction have access to this surgery inBrazil, reducing the negative impact of the disease on female body imageand the psychosocial consequences related to mastectomy. However,there are still some challenges in achieving these surgeries, since, to becarried out, they require a set of variables, such as a team of trainedmastologists and plastic surgeons, as well as access to materials such asimplants and expanders. |
