A crise em Essequibo: implicações do conflito para os países envolvidos e a abordagem estratégica e política dos Estados Unidos da América

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study and understand the crisis in the Essequibo between Venezuela and Guyana both internally and externally with consideration for the major countries that are and should be invested in the crisis. As part of this study, the more recent and long-term history of this conflict will be discussed, as well as implications of the claims that exist as part of the crisis. Further, this paper considers theories about the life cycle of great powers and cultural changes that have been used to bring a people closer to war – both to apprehend actions and to understand implications and possible actions. Changes to Venezuelan culture achieved by the government of Venezuela are also studied to augment understanding of the crisis that resurged at the end of 2023. The objective, ultimately, is to understand the crisis, analyze it through applicable lenses, learn possible implications presented by it, and recommend lines of action within policy for the United States to take in relation to the crisis and for South America. These lines of action must achieve an increase in diplomatic ties within the region and must also increase the stability of the region for the future.
